I know very little about show discus, but I know those are some gorgeous fish. The blue diamond and wild type have the most appealing colors to me. Welcome to the forum! :-D

The wife and i have debated swapping our 55G community tank to a discus tank. I have heard they are a nightmare to keep and extremly picky on water perameters. Is this true? how many could i get into a 55G and can any other fish go with or just stick with Discus'?

Just thought of something else.... Could any be kept in a 25G tank???? I have one i could use......

If you click the highlighted word Discus, you can read more about them. They shouldn't be kept in anything under 75 gallons. And no to 25 gallons as well- these are large sensitive fish.

No, to keeping them in this size tank, they need at least a 55g (even this is small) or bigger.

As long as they are captive bred and you are not planning on breeding them, adult discus (5+ inches) are not picky. They just need stable water parameters (with zero nitrates, nitrites etc). They do need careful and lengthy acclimatization before being introduced into your tank.
10 gallons per discus is a general rule of thumb. But if you keep up with water changes and water parameters, you can keep more. It is recommended to have at least 6 in a tank.
