New member in dire need of help...i think.
New member here, just looking for advice to get my tank as good a home for my fish as i can.
Got an 85 litre - 18gallon? tank
3 Tiger Barbs, 2 Albino tiger barbs, 5 danios and 3 Gourami's 2 Opaline 1 Yellow and a plec.
Been having some bullying issues later with the larger opaline gourami pretty much taking over the tank, not good i'm guessing?
Tiger barbs are barely around 1.5inches danios are pretty small, 4 of them only young, ones about 2 inches
I'd say the largest is the Opaline Gourami thats doing the bullying, probably about 3 inches length but he's also quite bulky, about 20 percent bigger than the other gouramis if i were to guess at it Oh other than the plec, who's about 7 inches long i'd reckon.
So yeah basically my large Opaline Gourami has stuck a flag down and claimed about 70 percent of the tank as his and the only thing he can't chase off is the plec who he just ignores. My other Gourami's have almost resorted to hiding in the skull i have on the right hand side of my tank, and all my other fish are gathered around it.
I'm guessing this surely can't be good?
If you know for sure it is a male then it is simply him claiming territory and defending it. Gourami will pick a spot and claim it as theres! They do best in a well planted tank and with fish of a similar aggressive nature to them.
If the others are Golden Gourami then the Opaline will aggressively fight with them regardless of sex.
You are also slightly overstocked for your tank.
I've got another tank, about 35litre that i need to get a heater/filter for which i'm hopefully doing this week, hoping to split them up a bit and get the tanks right, any advice?
Also, the other two gourami's one is Golden the other is another Opaline. I think the larger one is male, unsure about the sex of the smaller 2.
Are the tanks cycled?
what kind of pleco you got?
I genuinely don't know, i got the tank off my mum and the plec was already in the tank so i didn't purchase it, i'd guess from pictures i've seen it's just a common plecos.
5As for cycling the main tank that everythings in now has been running for about 4 months now and when i took a water sample into my local Pets at Home store they said the levels were all ok, however i need need to acquire a proper water testing kit so i can do things myself.
The other tank hasn't got water in it now due to the lack of filter or heater however i intend to get that running ASAP
That Common Pleco is going to get over a foot long. He will outgrow your tank surely.
A Bristlenose Pleco would be more suiting.

I dd have concerns he'd outgrow my tank from pictures i'd seen, i'll have to work out what to do with him. Possibly try get my hands on a much larger tank.
Ideally you would want a 75 to 100 gallon.
I would also set that other tank up as you might need it as a hospital tank or just as another tank to settle things down. You can see it with the filter from the bigger tank or gravel or ornaments and things to help it cycle faster.
