Male Guppie won't leave pregnant females alone.. So I decided to start breeding guppies recently and started off with 2 females and a male. Both females are pregnant and all today, the male has been nibbling at their bellies. Is this a problem? Do I need to worry? about any fish safety? Oh and they've been pregnant for sometime now, is it a sign of birth coming soon or anything? Oh and I have another question. I'm probably gonna sound dumb asking, but will fish lay eggs on glass? In my 75g African cichlid tank, it looks like there is clear patches of eggs or something...? |
Just a friendly response, I suggest remove the male for it might be stressing the female too much. Like human males it just needed attention from female. :-D I never encountered eggs on glass maybe it might be some insect larvae or snails. If its brown and looks slimy and oblong in shape, it is not of that a fish. |

You can add more females to "spread out" the male's attentions, but male guppies typically won't ever leave females alone. |
Funny story: I had placed a Betta male in my guppy tank just to see how it would go, (he is a very mild tempered betta). He was doing just fine until one of the female guppies decided she had the hots for him. This one female guppy would do the mating dance for this betta quite a lot, to the point where the betta got annoyed enough to start nipping the female. I've never seen a female act that excited! Long story short, if it weren't for that horny female my calm betta would still be in that tank. Cant blame her, the betta looks much nicer than the guppy males. As for the actual thread, I'd buy or make a mesh divider. Then when your females do give birth you can just move the females over to the male side and raise the fry safe and sound! |
