thanks to the experts

a few days ago i was having extreme water problems and i was lost. thanks to the patience and education given to me by the experts on this site, my water parameters are really improving. if i could pass one lesson on, especially to newbies like me, go to the source and test your water before you condition it. if its not close to what you need, find a water source that is. in my case i drove 10 miles to next city and tested water there and it is next to perfect for what i need. thanks.

I am glad you found the information you need. It is a bit concerning however that you needed to drive 10 miles to get water that you needed. Will you be driving those 10 miles once a week and hauling back enough of that water for the needed 50% water change to maintain your tank? Keep in mind that the water will need to stay consistant for the health of your fish.

You likely know all that but I want to put it out there for anyone that might be reading this as a guest and not know this. The things we will do for our much loved fish, huh? :)

I agree Inga.... hauling that much water each week.... wish I could read the original posts...I don't remember the original thread. Can you post a link? Would love to read the whole story. Can't imagine your water could be that bad!! Was the PH extreme?
I'm glad you received info that helped tho.

Thanks I've read it thru. Wow. You are going to be our Weird Water Expert by the time you are done! But the gas it's gonna cost you to keep fetching water! What about a rain barrel set out in the back yard? Is there too much pollution in rain water?
Good Luck with your tank. When you finally get it settled, please post a pic. We'd love see it.

Good stuff!! The plants can only make the whole situation better. Get as many as you can, it takes some time. Besides the LFS, they can be found also at local community fish club auctions, Kijiji and Craig's List too. Lots of our members are very generous and will mail you clippings. What state/province/country are you in as this will prohibit some shipping.
Darn laws!!!
