plants hello im looking to add some plants to my 46g chiclid tank. i currently have some anubis growing out of the filter and along the back of the tank with the roots hanging in the water. i had a whisteria and a hornwort. the whisteria got eaten i would say it was just pretty much stems when i pulled it out. i really liked the hornwort but it made a wicked mess the needles were everywhere so i pulled it. i have an 11yo parrot fish a 4 inch dempsey, and 2 fish i inherited from my girlfriend. those are a real small yelow lab and a maybe 3 inch flowerhorn. ther were too aggressive for her new tank so i took them. any recconmedations on some plants that might do well in this tank? or is my only real option to just only use the anubis? thank you, Mike |
Java Fern is an option, I don't think any fish likes the taste of it. |
than you! i will see if i can find some today! |
the lfs didnt have any of the java fern. i bought a sword plant. i forget the exact name but it began with a q. he thinks it might be ok cuse the leaves are tough not like the whisteria i had. i got a pretty huge plant for 6 or 7 bucks. it has tons of roots. i planted it into a hole in a large plastic log. i dont see it going anywhere. hopefully it does ok. |
Shoulda left the hornwort in. It has a tendency to shed when you first get it but it grows back. I've had a few stems floating for a month or two now. Not sure if I want more or not. I may look into other similar looking species that hopefully wont shed at first. From what I understand.. yeah you're pretty much stuck with anubias and maybe java fern. There are numerous varieties of anubias however. |
the plant got was a Ludwigia. i dunno where i got the idea it started with a q. i musta been looking at something else in the store. |
