crossbreeding between neons and danios
i have a 20 gallon, with 3 blue l-f danios, 4 zebra danios, and 4 neon tetras. i have seen fry recently (about 2 weeks ago) and put them in my breeder filter, and i dont know if they are blue l-f fry, zebra fry, blue l-f/zebra fry, neon tetra fry, or maybe one of the danios got with one of the neons, and i was wondering what would the two danio species mix into? and would the danios mate with the neons? i saw the neons chasing the danios, and vice versa. i heard that the males chase the females, and the danios still swim away, even though they are twice as big as the neons, or bigger. if anyone has any information  that would help, i would love to hear it! :o
Well I know this. Neons require some very specific water parameters to breed. Your tank could meet these requirements but I know when I researched breeding neons it was a very complex setup.
It could have happened inadvertantly. The male neons could have released their sperm and fertilized the danio eggs. Stranger things have happened. As for them being viable, haven't a clue. I guess it could have happened with the female neons releasing eggs and the danios inadvertantly fertilizing them.
I would expect though that you will get some interesting combination from the L-F and the zebras.
If you do get any cross breeds and plan to sell them, please let your LFS know that they are crosses. That way they can label them for others that may want to breed danios and keep their strains as pure as possible.
totally 100% impossible outside of Frankenstein's laboratory.
one is a Characin the other a Cyprinid.
Zebra danios are supposed to be quite easy to breed so my guess is that that is hat the fry are. I have never heard of neons and danios interbreeding and they're not the same family of fish.
if they do post some pics.
