Starting a pond... advise?

Me and my dad are starting a pond in his back yard in the spring. We got the hole dug last year but things happened and we couldn't finish (may have been a good thing) When I go over tommorow I will try and figure out the gallons but I will need some kind of formula. Right now from a guestemite it is around 500G.
How is this best setup?
How will I keep water from seeping into the ground while still keeping a natural look?
Will we need to get a UV sterilizer to keep green water away?
How do you keep water quality up OUTSIDE? I'm guessing natural elements will make it difficult.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!!

Not quite sure there I'd like to make sure everything works before thinking about putting fish in it. Also how long would a pond take to cycle?

the following link will help you work out the volume of the pond
and help you select the correct equipment for that volume.

http://www.worldofwater.com/pond_volume.htm

on filtration if you are going to stock koi you need a filter that is twice as much as your volume, ie a 500G pond with koi will need a filter rated for a 1000G pond

Ok it's roughly 700G, give or take 50G it's oval so I put in the avg radius, We have an old pool filter, would that be good?

Now what is a cheap and effective way to seal it up so it doesn't leak back into the dirt?
