Snow fall Nigata Japan 2008

I was informed that Nigata Japan just had a huge snow fall! 8) Nigata, Japan is of course the epicenter of where the most amazing koi fish are produced.

It is my understanding that each year the mud ponds in Nigata, Japan are emptied in the fall to harvest the koi in order to bring the fish into green houses for the winter.

Huge snow falls cover the mud ponds and the surrounding mountains and the melting snow fills the mud ponds back up, preparing them for the re-introduction of koi into the mud ponds each spring time.

It is said that the combination of the enriched mud and the pure snowfall in this remote area of Japan are just a couple of the primary reasons the lineage of most beautiful koi fish in the world can be traced back to Nigata. 8)

Have a great week!

Yes of course!

Yes, of course, I have Koi. I love koi. I kept fish for many, many years before I was moved (shaken) by koi and now koi fish are far and away my favorite.

Notice the fish in my avatar. It is my latest addition to the family.

I am curious to know how many of the fish hobbiests in the forum have ever been up close and personal with a group of special koi? It was a life changing moment for me.
