Wow, that sounds like it is going to be beautiful! I'm really looking forward to seeing this project blossom.

If I use ALL of the available space for water it will be maybe 5' wide and 10 feet long, half moonish shape. I want to do a big one in the yard but drainage, and running power out there are headaches I dont need to deal with if I have the pond right out front.

not to mention.. the gutter downspout is only a couple feet away, so im going to channel that into the pond as well, the overflow will be easily handled the same way the rain water is now. HOPEFULLY that will limit (i doubt eliminate) the need to top off the pond with hose water. And like i said, the power for the filter is only a couple feet away, Im considering hiding a chamber under the walk way to house the DIY filter.

the PROBLEM is going to be A) shielding it from direct sunlight, and of course B) is the limited stocking :(
A great way to get lots of helpful info is check for a local koi club you can do a search for New England Koi club, this is the time of year for koi / goldfish shows the people are always very friendly and will help you with things you need to know. I know of a couple of forums that I am a member on but the two do not get along lots of politics in koi LOL. I know some as I have had a pond for the past 10 years. I started with a 90 gallon water feature then went to a 2500 gallon and I now in addition to the first two have a 10,000 gallon. The biggest thing is with a koi pond its like name brand verses generic .. You will find that lots of people try and puh the most expensive products out there when in all reality lots of DIY stuff will work. I would be glad to help as much as I can.
