Cycling A 300 Gallon Pond

How do you pond keepers cycle your ponds ? Same as aquariums ? I don't use heavy filtration in my pond...mostly for water movement with a simple sponge filter attached to the water pump. I do weekly 10% water changes and net out debris.

Same principles apply. Carbon and biological media will help a lot and strong flow. Weekly water changes shouldn't be necessary unless extenuating circumstances occur. Removal of rotting debris is essential. Live plants always help if light permits.

Would the weekly water changes not be as necessary because of the natural build of of algae and bacteria that will naturally soak up nitrates and other harmful chemicals?
