We did a very brave thing today - took home a 7 months old Dalmatian pup. His name is Pluto and he is quite dark in color - our girl Mirta is light with few spots. This one is the dark prince from the underground - Pluto - the ancient Roman deity from the underworld.

He is very much perplexed - doesn't know how to behave, drinks like an elephant and pees a lot! But he forgets to pee when he is outside. His favourite thing in the house is the fish tank, of course!

We'll have to teach him a lot now. He does not even know his name! But as a Dal, he is calm and playful, intelligent and stupid, gentle and dangerous at the same time. So we'll have a lot to do! I will post pics as soon I'm ready with them!

Very brave, indeed. Congrats on your new boy. It sounds like you're going to have alot of work in front of you, as far as training goes. In the end, though, it's always worth it! How is Mirta getting along with him?
Looking forward to the pics!

Thank you for the comments!

We are so busy with upbringing that I haven't even thought about pics. I will make some as soon as everything is calmer.

The new boy is quite black with large spots. Mirta is a snowhite. She is jealous - that's for sure. But now she feels some responsibility during our walks. She is very sweet in nature, so she will get over it.

The boy is due to attend school! We'll start this weekend - hopefully. I need advice on whether it is a good idea to take Mirta along to the first class...:-?

When I adopted my second rescue dog I did the basic obediance classes with only my *new* dog. After ten classes solo with him I now take both boys with me to brush up classes. I would think it best to take Pluto solo to the first few classes so all your focus can be on him, and him on you. At the time I didn't have a partner to help me when I attended the basic obediance class with the new dog. If I would have had someone else I would have taken both dogs to class as they each would have had a handler. It sounds like your significant other will be involved? If so then I'd take both Pluto and Mirta. Just my opinion....

Thank you for your advice! I think I'll take Pluto and my daughter will take Mirta. She used to train Mirta for awhile and the latter would give her a hard time:twisted:. But now Mirta is quite better - she is a lady! I quite agree that it would be impossible to concentrate on Pluto otherwise and he needs all the attention.
Mirta is actually 4 years old and she knows a lot. She is as obedient as a spoilt Dalmatian princess can be, and if she is in a good mood she can set a good examle for Pluto. He actually looks up to her in a lot of situations.
