New Addition

I just got me a Cockatiel who seems to be a very chatty little bird (cant wait to teach her to copy human speech) She is still young and was hand fed so she is reasonably tame. Here are some pics.

No it isnt albino it has some yellow in it. I belive it is a Lutino Cockatiel.

Thank You for Your Coments.

I was thinking Cheecks but that isnt very original.

Any sujestions for names? Btw she is very loud and dances when she wants out so im trying to break her from her screaching and dancing on the floor of her cage because its like she is throwing a tempertantrom.

How about Bianca? I just read a story on another forum about how a lady taught many birds to talk. She speaks in a high sort of pitch and acts very excited to the birds. She says she actually bobs up and down a bit and rolls her eyes a lot too. The birds do this to each other and really seem to like it and respond well.

Have fun with your pretty new bird!

It depends on what you want. There are people who use normal voices and get their birds to talk crystal clear but it takes alot more time. I personaly would prefer it if she didnt "whistle talk" so i think i might put the extra time into it. (I heard 6 months for normal speech) She (if it is i did more reading and it turns out that Lutinos Cockatiels are almost impossible to visably sex) is a very freindly bird. She is actually sleeping on my shoulder right now and hates her cage. lol. She throws fits to get out but she threw one so bad earlier she broke the tip of her nail off and damaged some of her tail feathers. (her wings are clipped but she manages short burst of flight). :(

Bianca is a nice name ill consider it :D

Ok turns out that only a few cockatiel have the ability to mock deeper voices so it looks like high pitch for her. I also decided the name. Her name is Luna.

Haha, reminds me of my 'tiel. I have a grey cockatiel, who we dont know is a boy or girl (thought she was a girl, but now we think she's a guy). She is called Tiki, lol. Very loud bird; talks to herself all the time and is very fun to play with. She is less than a year old and we have had her since September, and she already mimcs everything. Have fun with Luna.

I miss my cockatiel so much, her name was Betty. Had to surrender her so she could get more attention and health care she needed. Poor thing. Yes, your cockatiel is a lutino. In some if not all, there should be a small bald spot under the crest on her head. Also, females have little variation in the speech, they are alot more squawky and males can do the fox whistles and more pleasant talk. :P Just make sure you can give her lots of attention. Also, in case you don't know, don't just feed her a seed diet, she will get obese. A high quality pelleted diet is the best, like Harrisons. :) Premium Certified Organic Pet Bird Foods. Harrison's Bird Foods - let the results speak for themselves. Most birds will take to it readily unless they are highly addicted to a seed diet. I know you posted this back in July, but I hope you all are getting along just fine. :)
