If you can't find any and would really like some, let me know, I could probably try and send a few your way (never shipped fish before, but I'd be willing to give it a try!). They're really gorgeous and a very visible from above. My mother has a few in her aquarium, but so far I haven't seen any spotted fry. Here's two pics of the large male :)

I was browsing Home Depot and it looks like they have 40 gallon half wine barrels, at least I think so from my poor mathematics xD 25 inch diameter, 18 inch high.

:o He is gorgeous!! Looks just like some kind of molly but smaller! Now I want to go on a hunt for them! I'm going to collect some more wild specimens to increase the gene pool in my pond. I will be on the lookout!!!

You know what also works well... animal water troughs ;)

You know a Gambusia holbrooki pair with a melanistic male like that sells for $15 online? Money to be made on them. ;)

Glad to hear things are going well over there so far, Izzy! That tub is going to be amazing by the end of the season, no doubt about it! Bonus that you don't have to refill the pup's water every 20 seconds. My dogs go through GALLONS on a summer day, I swear. . .

heehee, I remember that fish! Is he still living in your mother's tank, Jen? Three cheers for troughs!

I'm so jealous of you guys that are able to go catch your own fish. I want to catch fish! I'm sure I'd totally fail at it, though. I'm a TERRIBLE ninja. . .

Woah really? Would that be wild caught or do you think I could breed and sell them? I could get them by the tens out of the local waters here, and it's not like they're terribly difficult to breed xD (I'd still give you a few if you want them koimaiden, if you can't find any!)

Also, I don't know how you catch yours but I've found the quickest way is to take a clear water bottle, cut the 'top' end off, right where it starts tapering to the opening, and then invert it into the bottle to create a funnel. No bait, no nothing, just plop it in the shallow water and walk away for five minutes. You'll come back to the bottle filled to the brim and with more fish trying to force their way in, I have no idea why they do it but they do.

Yup! He's the dominant male in the group.

Anyways, sorry to hijack your thread Koi! xD Can't wait for updates on this, so cool.

Sorry Izzy if I'm slightly off topic. You got offered fish though!

Mosquitofish

No idea if they are captive bred or wild. It says they don't breed true so perhaps they are wild. I've seen sellers give Florida sellers licences on Aquabid for wild caught fish so I don't know. I imagine sending some to Izzy wouldn't pose a problem. Selling wild ones might.

Lol! No worries about hijacking! I'm pumped to try to find some of these guys this weekend. If not I may want to get some from you, Jen. It's a shame they don't breed true, tho. Maybe you could make them? You have access to a lot more than I do. Maybe put enough of them in a tank and you'll get babies? I'm pretty sure that's not how genetics works, but I'm tired and hopeful.

I juts kinda go at it wildly with a net. That always nets me a lot of fish. I poke around with it in the grasses. Gotta remember to take my boots with me.

By making you guys talk about this more and more, I'm just making you want a tub more and more. ;) Pretty neat Jedi mind trick, eh?

There is a nursery close to us that has a giant vinyl flower pot in the color and shape of a clay flower pot. It has to be over 3 feet tall and 4 feet in diameter. They have if planted with marginal and submerged plants and lilies. It's stocked with small goldfish, tadpoles, and snails. I fell in love with it but, it was just a display feature that they didn't carry for sale.

Well I didn't get to go collecting like I thought I would this weekend. My boyfriend got pretty banged up in a mountain bike crash, so I spent most of the weekend dressing his wounds and helping him move around the apartment. So no fish in the tub pond yet. I'll add some mosquitofish from the pond this weekend when the weather warms up.

On the plus side we had a huge rain today and the overflow works like a charm.
