Actually my grandfather was the president of the Virginia chapter of the northern American falconer's association. He has a goshawk, and I've been around them my whole life. He has taken me up on a mountain we have here called spruce nob, when it becomes fall/winter and we set up a whole blind with a trap and we trap all kinds of birds of prey travailing the winds south for the winter. He even caught a golden eagle I've seen pictures and the thing standing up is past his hips and he is 5'11". We have all kinds in virgina, Currently I have a resident pair of red shoulders in my back yard. Occasionally a red tail comes through, it's fun to watch the crows give them hell. If I travel about 30 to 45 minutes west towards the application mountains I have seen bald eagles nesting. My neighbor has a small lake and so sometimes their are ospreys that fly by. My uncle caught a kestrel and had and hunted with that for a while. All three of us go hunting with the birds its really neat, the owner of the bird holds the bird while everyone else 1-5 more people have sticks and walk ahead of the bird and beat the bushes etc. Eventually a rabbit or turkey or even a goose or something will pop out and that person yells. The holder of the bird releases it and bam!
