I worked with children with autism for 1.5 years doing ABA. Wow, some amazing break-throughs that occurred... no cure of course but amazing improvements.
Well, I was homeschooled 5-8th grade because in public school I used to get in trouble for reading TOO much of the assigned book (i.e. 5 chapters instead of 2). Parents got tired of that and pulled me. Homeschooling was great for me as I got to study when, how, and how much I wanted. Then I got tired of my mom and told her I wanted to go to public high school... what a mistake. Kids were annoying/immature, classes (even AP) were WAY too easy... so I dropped out the middle of my junior year, homeschooled myself, graduated 1 year later (one semester before I was "supposed" to graduate) and had 38 credits to college. Totally nixed my freshman year of college in high school... woohoo and GOOD RIDDANCE TO PUBLIC SCHOOL!
I majored in Spanish, minored in Psych, and dabbled in Russian. Graduated, taught kids with autism for a year and a half then finally found a Spanish teaching job nearby. Now I teach middle school Spanish... some day I adore middle school, some days abhor.... But I try to give kids the kind of educational experience I WANTED while in school... and not punish them for being smart or motivated.
My husband and I travel to an orphanage in Guatemala and work there in the summer when we are able. We have only been together there once, but are planning on going back before we have kids. I also went in college.
That's about it, I s'pose..
