trouble since we have a aquarium

My husband work nighttime so i stay since years up all the night and wait until he comes home.
Last week he bought the aquiarium and since then we have trouble.
First it was because i could not sleep becuse the filter was to laud.
Now we have a new filter and its quiet.

But my husband say the fish need to sleep at night and i kill his fish when i am up all night
so he turn off the light and my PC monitor

We was at an aquarium shop and ask and they say the fish need minimum of 6 hours sleep.
So i cover the aquarium with a blanket.
But my husband say that is not enough.

Can someone can help?
How dark it have to be at the aquarium?

Sorry,my english is not so good,

I leave my tank light out from 9 at night till 9 in the morning. So about 12 hrs of sleep time.
It is fine to have a small lamp or your computer on during "lights out time". It is actually more natural for them to have a small amount of light shining through, than to be in total darkness. Rivers and lakes would be lighted by the moon.

hello :)
if the fish are dieing then perhaps he needs to check out the water conditions.
an API water test kit would be a great help.
