A lot of labs on the market now are high bred or poorly bred. They are prone to unstable temperaments and health issues. When I worked Animal Control the only dogs that bit me were labradors (and two rat terriers). He's from solid working lines and a good breeder. Had I known then what I know now, I probably wouldn't have gotten a lab, but I'm soooo glad I took my time and worked with his breeder as long as I did. He's worked out wonderfully.
As for trainability... lol. They are quite trainable. He's a wonderful working dog and a super star amongst friends, who's dogs steal food, dig holes and are jerks. BUT it is a lot of work. He runs five miles a day, gets daily training, and is darn expensive to feed. It took a year and a half to discover that he wasn't food or toy motivated. It was a fluke that we discovered he loves water bottles. The trainer (breeder) was at my house for six hours evaluating and trying to work with him, when the dog up and stole his water bottle. After that, life got much simpler.
