ANOTHER newbie mistake I just realized should be mentioned here. I left the lid off our first tank. I was out of the room for five minutes tops. When I came back the dog's entire head, up to his collar, was soaking wet. I looked at the tank and he had bobbed out the goldfish. I looked back at him and he threw his head back and swallowed. NOW, all of our tanks have openings too small for him to fit his big fat head into. I told the kids the fish died and it is buried in the garden. Not for fear that they'd be mad at the dog, but cause I fear they'd start feeding him fish.

TexasTanker, that story reminded me of one that predates my other story by many years.

When I was a kid, we had a mixed tropical community tank on a stand in the kitchen, conveniently located right behind where I sat for meals. Let's just say that I was something of a picky eater for a few years, and the fish were considerably less picky than I.

LOL, that's funny!! It reminds me of my mother scratching her head over why our childhood miniature daschund was such a fatty. Being a picky eater as a kid myself, that dog knew to sit right under my chair at dinner time.

LOL, I had a VERY fat cat as a kid. I wasn't a picky eater, just a messy one.

Subject: Larry LaPrise dead at 93

With all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the moment, it is worth reflecting on the death of a very important person, which almost went unnoticed last week.

Larry LaPrise, the man that wrote "The Hokey Pokey" died peacefully at the age of 93. The most traumatic part for his family was getting him into the coffin. They put his left leg in. And then the trouble started.

My biggest mistake, and one I will never do again- is not enough research on a fish before you buy it!! Of course, this was pre-high speed internet days, but I digress. I bought this little guy at a LFS who just got him in shipment and had never seen one before... oh sure... he'd be great with your figure 8 puffer.

No, no he wasn't. He was super evil. Harassed my little figure 8 to death and ate everything he could. I took him back when he tried to take a bite out of me too... luckily I got a refund but still had lost my figure 8.

So kids, always research. And sometimes even trusted LFS employees need to do research too.

Smile

I think mine is the most embaressing. LOL. Do read this.......

I was taking my filter out of the tank to clean it but I forgot the heater was still pluged in. I started to hear funny noises when I realized the heater is starting to melt the plastic. I didn't think and immediatly stuck it back into the water, and the heater exploded. Luckily inside the filter and not the tank. And my fish didn't shock they are still very happy. What a big mistake.

The other one was when I cleaned my fish tank I took my little boat out of the water and went to the bathroom to clean the algi of it. WWhen suddenly my yoyo bottom feeder was there. (He was stuck in there without me seeing them.) Then I tried to get him out of the basin. But the more I tried to get him the more he tried to wiggle and get loose. So he wiggled himself through the basin into the drain. I felt so bad. I had him for so long.

Hope everyone lerand and had a bit of a laugh with my mistakes. :)
