I say sucker as well. If someone asked me if I wanted a lollipop, I would give them a weird look. I would know what they were talking about, but around here...it's a sucker.

OOOOH MY this is my favorite topic. We used to argue about this all the time in my sociolinguistics class (even though we were supposed to be talking about Spanish socioling :-p )

SODA. In Maine everyone calls it soda. When I went to school in albany, ny, everyone in Rochester and west called it pop. Apparently here in SC (I'm on vacation right now) many people call it Coke?

And it is a lollipop.

I almost never drink it, but around here it's either Coke or Pop, mostly Coke. Cola and Soda get you wierd looks :D

But I prefer "other" water.

definitly Pop around here. I've never heard anyone ask or call it a Soda. Always pop. Infact I never knew what a soda was untill I started visiting forums that have americans a few years ago.

I'm in a soda area. Pop makes sense to me. "Cola" is what Coke and Pepsi are a type of. What I really don't understand is people in the south calling all soft drinks "Coke." That's just ludicrous. Might as well call all cars Toyotas.
