here are my ratty girls Fuu, Momo, Blaze and Onyx. they are all gone now, but were much loved while they were here. miss my girls.and my youngest son is in here too. we made lego cities filled with hidden treasure, puffed rice cereal.and they would find every piece. also had tunnles and other toys to play with, but thier favorite toys were us. lol we were thier climbing and hiding strutures. momo was the queen, she would sleep in the basment of thier 4 story cage , and the othetrs would bring her food and clean her . it was interesting. i love rats.

I love rats, they're one of the sweetest - and smartest - rodents out there, I think. We used to have a rat named Rose . . . long story, but she was a Valentine's day present, so was named after the flower traditionally given to 'normal' girls on that lovey-dovey day, lol. Best V-day gift ever! I've been considering getting a new rat lately, we really miss our girl, but I just don't think its the right time for it now. . .

Love your pics, the Lego play-yard is a brilliant idea, lol. One day, I'll try it! Your little boy is adorable, too - cuter than the rats for sure, and they're pretty cute!

I LOVE RATS! I had the best rat ever, Lucy, who was so tame and sweet I would take her to work @ a SNF. I cried so loudly when she died that my neighbor in the duplex came over to see what was wrong with me! I never got another because she only lived a year and it broke my heart when she died. Excuse me...need to go find a box of tissues...(no really, I'm OK).

I also love rats. lol I've never had one though, grandma hates them and would not allow it. She did, however, allow me to get things like mice, gerbils, rabbits and hampsters. The gerbil I had was the best rodent I've ever owned. Sweet as can be, absolutely jet black, smart, and just adorable. =)
Grandma argued with me that my ferrets were just big rats, and then I proved to her that ferrets are not in the rodent family. They're closer related to cats and dogs than they are to rodents, and actually feed off of them. They're in the Order Carnivora...actual relations include: Wolverines, otters, weasels(lol we can all tell that from looking), Martens, and badgers. Skunks used to be in the same family, but I had heard they were recently removed from it. She got over it after finding out they weren't rodents. lol This line in particular made her laugh and she tells it to EVERYONE she talks to about the ferrets that she now adores: The ferrets Latin name, mustela putorius furo, means spear-shaped stinky little thief.

I also have proof she likes them...this is the same woman that used to SCREAM and move away from them as fast as she could if they came near...ah yes, and anyone else agree it looks like Ren is wearing eye make-up? lol:

My grandmother professed to hate rodents and would have jumped a mile if a mouse crossed the floor, but Lucy died in her arms. An example of a global predjudice being ignored for the sake of one darn cute fuzzy face.

i would recomend getting at least two. they are very social. you can be thier other rat, but they really need a friend to sleep and play with when you cant be there. i had a pair of rats about 20 years ago, Tannis and Tagis. i always knew if they had had a fight in the night because one would be at the top most tower and the other would be in the oppiset side of the basment, as far from eachother as they could get. lol, but they usually slept tangled up in a ball.

oh and a funny side note. some rats , well most females, will clean you. mine would groom my nails, try to take my rings off and if you had a bandaid on your hand, forget it. they loved to yank bandaids off .

Oh yeah, I would definitely be getting at LEAST a pair if/when we're ready to keep rats again. Back then it was different. My husband and I, newly married, and with no kiddos. These days we're way busier, and I'd feel bad for the lil guy if it was all alone :)

Your experience is quite like mine on the grooming aspect, too. SO cute. . .:)

Of course visitors would come over and really freak out that we kept a rat for a pet, lol! That was always funny. . .
