One day at work while I was walking along the river walk with a co-worker we spotted this otter playing in the water. The little guy climbed up on land and started cleaning himself. He was sooo cute we just had to snap some pictures.

This is one of the dams on our local river.

An artsy shot of one of the local bridges over the river.

Oh my gosh, OTTERS! I love otters, love them a lot. I didn't even know we had any in the states, or was that taken elsewhere? =o I would love to see otters. Occasionally we get beavers...or we used to before people got pissy about it. We had a pair of them living near here in the creek that does nothing for anyone but make scenery, so I don't get why they ran them off. =( They weren't really hurting any of the trees here either since there were masses of bushes and baby trees we didn't need clumped together and stuff for them to eat.
We occasionally see musk rats though. But they are neigh impossible to get photos of since they're so shy. I used to go sit and watch them by the giant willow I had a photo up of earlier, but then one day a crawdad the size of a small lobster climbed onto my shoulder and grabbed my face, never sat there again. >_>; Before that I was unaware they would go out of the water and travel short distances. xD I like those things, but once you get pinched by a big one...let's just say I never picked one up again, so that didn't make the one grabbing my face any friendlier to me. Left a biiig gouge below my ear along my jaw, nasty bruise/cut. Now that I think about it though, I may go over to the spawning area under the bridge later this year. I dunno if they lay their eggs there or if the babies just go there were the water is more shallow to grow, but there are usually hundreds+ of them. My dog got one clamped to his face, funniest thing ever! It was like Chance from Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey. lol I try not to mess with them though, but watching them is quite fun. I'd take my little cousin, but she'd probably want to catch them all like I did as a kid, they rarely survived....Although, I did have one GIANT one that I kept in an aquarium for about a year, it got loose in the house one day...grandma found it at the bottom of the stairs tormenting the dog two days later. Dunno how it survived...but after that I let it go where I found it. x) Ah, I miss Goliath! He really was big, biggest one I ever caught, but only the second largest when it came to finding one. But I suspect the other one was a lobster someone released since they couldn't stomach killing and eating it, it was red. I was gonna rescue it but it got away. The water here isn't salt.

Speaking of, could you even keep those in an aquarium properly? When I was a kid I didn't know better...but that would be interesting for the kids, take a few babies, watch them grow and then release them later, or keep them, I dunno.

And Chesh, your butterflies aren't mating, they are doing what is called "Puddling" where they swarm on the ground and drink to get extra minerals and salts needed to have a healthy diet. Although males do this more than females and it helps have healthier sperm, the mating doesn't happen there. Just thought you might want that fun little fact. ^^;

Annnd...I think I might get a photo of buttered toast later on to tor---I mean make people happy. But maybe not. lol

Sylver, those photos were taken in the States. Virginia to be exact. We have otters all along the river of the east coast, but they aren't as common as they once were. And I know the west coast has sea otters.

John, your little girl is just darling! I, too, love that picture of her passed out on you. She looks soo comfy! You look.. a little less so.

thesagedragon, those are some very neat clay sculptures you have. I love the froggy one!

Yeah I wasn't very comfy at that point. Had been laying there for awhile and just started to get up and realized she was out cold. So I had to lay there alittle longer! LoL
