That "Butterflies, babies and bugs... OH MY!!" comment made me remember something. I had forgotten about the time me and friend went to help out at a sanctuary(Called the Prarie Wind Animal Refuge) about...oh I dunno, 6-8 years ago. They needed volunteers to help with all the wolf pups that came in, they had waay too many babies that needed to eat! Got some good photos. =)

Lions and tigers and bears, OH MY! First off is the male lion they have there. He was not well, his mate had just died and he himself is sick and very old. He did recover a little, or so I heard. I only got to go once to help with the wolf pups, so I don't have many updates on the animals themselves. These are ALL rescued animals from abusive and neglectful, or just plain bad situations.

And next up, the tiger. this is my buddy. Sweet thing for a giant predator cat! lol

And yes, he was mad at me, I was mad at him...>_>; I got payback for him treeing me when he got into the enclosure I was cleaning...broke into it more like, but he wasn't trying to kill me, I just don't take chances. Little-cough- Ahem. Beautiful animals though, eh?

And of course the bear! This is my friend doing something I would never, no matter how tame they are claimed to be. LOL But isn't he cute? He was overweight because the people where he was, fed him nothing but sweets all the time, like the original Winnie the Pooh. So he's on a diet, but still is a sweet bear coming to see everyone! I wanted to touch, but I have this thing...with these animals it's kinda not right for me, I feel like I'm breaking rules and disrespecting.

And here's my friend with the wolves. Most of them are wild and afraid of people, but the pups raised by people are pretty tame. Powerful animals still to be wary of. My favorite part of this was going to where the wild ones were and watching them in the trees as they should be. lol She's a groomer and was asked to clean them up for something or other, I think there was some wildlife event, I can't quite recall it was so long ago. But wolves and tigers are my favorite animals. I love them, so beautiful. :3

Oh yes, almost forgot the one of the old tiger sleeping, it was funny. xD

Turning on the Aquarium lamp in the morning is MY cup of coffee.

I dont know if it was intentional, but I really like the lighting on your first picture. It adds to the sad feeling of it. Kinda like the old man is just fading away.

Also I don't blame you for not wanting to touch the bear especially being from Colorado. I know I wouldn't given the opportunity... close encounters have made me weary. But I do love the tiger pics!!! Sad that there are more in captivity than the wild.

The wolf pics are really neat, too! It's not hard to see why ancient humans chose wolves to become our companions.

I think the light was just how the sun came through the trees and he was in a shaded enclosure. He was something like 16 years old, very old for a male lion even in captivity, his mate died three weeks before at the age of fourteen. He'd been here for a while, I can't remember what his original story was, I think he was a circus cat. =/

As for the bear, always good to be wary! I've met a black bear before. We went camping when I was eleven and I was left in charge of some younger kids, we went exploring and I saw a big black bear. The boys wanted to run but I told them not to move at all because she had two cubs with her. She just grumbled at her cubs and kept an eye on us and went about her way. That was indeed a very dangerous situation that could have gone the other way due to cubs being present, but she didn't want trouble and neither did we. Also probably because we were small and not seen as a threat. lol We were only about fifty feet from camp, I think she was unsure and possibly looking for food, but she knew better than to go near people.
Bears normally wont mess with people, but it happens. ESPECIALLY with black bears. You have less to worry about from the much bigger grizzly. =p
I like bears, but I know full well the damage they can do so I am wary and try to be respectful. He wanted me to pet him though. lol I just talked sweet to him instead. That bear was kept by a collector in a tiny cage barely big enough to lay down in and fed constantly by kids so he could get money. The bear was three hundred and eighty two pounds over weight. It looked like a giant bowling ball. Too many sweets can hurt their health, but to my knowledge he's doing better and has thinned up. And he LOVES pumpkins.

Oh yes, the wolves. They help out in restoring the wild population, hence having ones living there that aren't human friendly. Others were tamed up for breeding programs so that they can be handled and cared for properly. I personally think that goes against the point, but that's just me. I am happy to help out feeding and caring for them, even though it goes against my beliefs. I'm not sure if they do that still, or if it even was accomplished. Letting it suffer because someone else was dumb isn't my thing.=p I love seeing them...but I love seeing them in the wild more. You know how when you go out for a hike or something and spot a wild animal, it gives you that "OH OH!" feeling of excitement, you've seen it not in a zoo, all on your own, being what it should be. :3
