Remind me to put up some photos from the time I went to the Butterfly Pavilion later on. I've got a photo of me holding their tarantula. I've got better ones of my little cousin holding her, my mother is kinda a...well, she was being mean to me, grabbed the camera, snapped it and threw it back, so the one of me came out bad. =-=
The Cardinal is a gorgeous bird, it's also the most used State Bird. It's the State Bird of Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia.
When I was in Kentucky there was a pair of them in the tree outside the house. Everytime I went out they would get upset with me, they would sit directly across from me in the bush just feet from where I was and just stare me down....pretty as they are, they're about as mean as Blue Jay's(Anyone who knows a thing about Blue Jay's knows what I mean, one tried to kill my cat once and then me for saving him, ripped out good chunks of his hair...they don't call them "Cat Birds" for nothing!), if not worse. xD Heck, they'd try to kill people for walking up to the house or down the street twenty feet away!
Well, during the ONE storm we had when I was there, and it was a bad one which unfortunately did NOTHING for the temp...well it did that night but it was hotter than billy be damned in the morning, their nest was knocked from the tree. To my knowledge they only had three babies, but one of them vanished...
Now you've all seen how pretty the parents are, yes? Wait until you see the homely, but adorable baby. I can't believe it! Can you? And I should specify, I was NOT as close as I looked....couldn't pay me to get that close to one of those dangerously beautiful birds. Magpies, jays...evil things. >_>; -cough-:
Here's dad with breakfast:
And here's mom. Honestly they're very dull in color compared to the males...but this has to be the most beautiful female cardinal I've ever seen. Dad was a little bit scruffy, he probably got picked at a bit. lol
Oh, OUH! I found the photos of Leo sleeping on my fan. xD Let me tell you, in the three months I was there, even at night I don't think the temp went below 78 degrees, and we were by the Ohio River, so it was always very humid and felt ten times hotter than it was. The worst day I think we hit the heat record...or one below, I can't recall for sure. It was just awful, I hate heat, made me sick every day.
Ah yes, and the Kitten Chloe(her name was initially Cleo, but because of Leo it was difficult so my friend changed it lol)...Karate Kicking my cat in the face for grooming her. She really was a funny wild little kitten. One morning I woke up with her flying over my head and landed on the side of the couch...she just kep running around in circles there earning her the name "Spider Kitten" lol When I went to take this photo, Leo had an arm around her and was cleaning her ear...it was so cute, but obviously I didn't snap the pick fast enough!
She always picked on him. xD Leo just wanted to lay on the floor where it was coolest. I really thought it was cute though, he was an 18 pound cat and a...I think she was a four-five month old kitten. He was very tolerant of her. He liked that little kitten, but I think it made her owner nervous because he was so big.
Yeah yeah, he let her win...trust me. I know it looks like she always kicked his butt and everyone claimed as much and called my buddy a wimp...but I saw him shut her in a box and sit on the lid when she pestered him too much, or sat on her in a way she couldn't escape if he didn't want her to. He's just a sweetheart, that's all there is to it. :3
