People with school kids help me to understand...

Alright all you mom's & dad's out there....help me understand what has happened here since I been a kiddo (30yrs old here)
I recall in vivid colors me trying to wobble my way to school through snow that (back then) seemed as tall as me....so yea it took everybody lil longer to get there those days, but we had school just like any other day.

When did it start and WHY that when the weather man here calls for 30% precipitation AND the possibility of it begin 34F they delay the school automatically by 3 hrs WITH the possibility of full closure?
Just like this last storm we had them buggers where outta school for over a week and the wholeeee time there was only ONE day where the streets been a LITTLE iffy for a newbie driver (about 0.5" snow and a few smaller patches of icey slick in the shade areas).

I mean seriously isn't that all going a lil too far? I wouldn't want my kids hurt don't get me wrong, but outta school for nothing while parents gotta work.......I donno about that.

Haha thats funny! They hardly ever do that here in Maine. We can get a foot of snow and they dont cancel school here. Ice is about the only reason for a delay or closing in Maine, otherwise they would have to shut down school for most of the winter lol

It seems to me that kids are OUT of school more than they are IN these days! Same here...if they call for flurries, school gets cancelled!

We dont have that problem here in Colorado. It has to snow like 4 feet for us to get a snow day.

For the same reason parents are having their lives investigated because they spanked their kids. The government knows better and cares more deeply for them than any parent does. They just want to protect their future votes. Plus let's not forget the pandering unions. It's time off paid for the teachers. And it's TN. What can I say there.

I'm in TN.. and my kid hasn't been to school all week.. despite the fact my baled tired mini van made it out just fine at 7 this morning. And no school again tomorrow. UG. She missed 2 weeks last time it snowed, and another week now.. It's just stupid!

I can understand when it's really bad. The roads ice up and we're in the mountains up here (east TN Smokeys) so a little ice screws everything up.. but when the ice is cleared by 9, there shouldn't be any reason not to have school an hour or two late!

My kid is driving me CRAZY! If I have to make one more snow cat, I'll get out the blow torch and deal with the snow once and for all!

Yeah, we never had a day off from school when I lived there. When I was in college, I got frostbite on my ear walking to class in sub zero temps and in snow up to my rear end.

I just really do not recall by the best of my knowledge it was this bad back home in CO then it is here....they're outta school ALL THE TIME here

@MollyJean We're in East TN too and I thought I was alone on here from TN lol yea the ice had been issue here the day after the "big" storm but it was enough slush by like 9-10 the next AM for my Jeep to go through no problem whatsoever.

And really...I mean what do you do as a parent, you can't just keep on calling up your boss saying you'll stay home for some 2 weeks enjoy the nice sunny winter weather (at least I wouldn't dare call my boss doing that)....Or even better what do single parents do?

Call me old fashioned but I just don't get this I find this way too extreme.
