ifish - As a techie myself I know exactly where you are coming from. And just because I don't like the way you were treated, even though I admit you should have provided more information, I will admit that I myself have been guilty of hacking. Like yourself not blatant hacking with the intent of causing hate and discontent but rather a bored high school kid with a knack for computer security. I was expelled from high school when I was a kid for gaining root access to my local high schools server.
Again, my intentions werent malicious in nature, I was just bored and curious and was born with a gift for computers. Now Im not trying to brag dont get me wrong. Just trying to help people understand that hacking isn't always with the intent of illegal and malicious activities, even if one doesn't work for the government.
Obviously what ifish is talking about is hardware hacking. In other words modifying a game system to do more than it was originally intended for, playing games. There is a large community of them/us online as well, completely peaceful people, and yes some of us keep aquarium fish as well. Hardware hacking can actually allow you to do TONS of things. While hardware hacking in general isn't an illegal activity, some of the things people do with the hacked equipment CAN be illegal (download copyrighted games, ect.).
So cut the kid some slack. He is 14 years old and dabbling in things a lot of adults don't even know how to do/understand. For all we know in a few years he will be going to Harvard and creating the next great aquarium technology, or a new game system, or a better TV than the one you currently watch. Cheers
