My Baby & Her Eggs

This is my baby, Alex. She's a pied lovebird, a little over a year old. I couldn't resist showing her off! :D





She recently laid 2 eggs, and she sits on them all day long even though she doesn't have a nest. Unfourtunately they will never hatch because there is no male to fertilize them :( But it's still cute:

Oh my goodness, she's adorable! How long have you had her? Has she laid any eggs before? Post more pics! :D

I got her 1 month after she was born (hatched, rather :P) so about a year.
She's laid eggs before, I think about 8 or so total. She's an egg factory! :P
Oh by the way, sorry the cage is such a mess. I haven't cleaned it since she's laid the eggs.

Yes, I know, but there are several problems with getting her a mate.
(a) a nice pretty pied lovebird like her is expensive. Which, if I was to get another lovebird, I would get a nice pretty pied.
(b) I would have to get a old enough male, which means I wouldn't get it as baby, which means I couldn't train it right like I did her.
(c) If I had 2 lovebirds, they would "bond" with each other, not me. Alex is currently "bonded" with me as her owner. And I like her that way. :)
(d) If she did lay eggs, and the eggs did hatch, I would have baby lovebirds! Which would be a great joy but would also be a huge responsibility that I'm not willing to take on at the moment.
(e) There are already 2 birds in the house (Bo, a yellow female cockatiel, and Alex) and any more birds would drive us crazy! There are a noisy bunch.

And that's why I haven't got her a mate

You're right, Brie. It's crazy when they get noisy.
Guess you can just stick with her instead of buying a male.:) I'd prefer a bond between the pet and owner than the bond between two animal lovers.

I'd love to get back to keeping budgerigars. However, cage is not repaired yet and I'm currently monitoring my 8 Discus. :P
So attention cannot be easily divided. Heck. I love the Discus. It makes me regret of having a choosy green arowana.

:) I think your baby is totally cute although i'm not a bird fan myself. In fact if a small bird flies next to me i guess i'm scared. I'm fascinated by how sociable yours is sitting next to your computer and letting you take pics of her eggs. Does she ride on your shoulder?
