I've got to vent (may be offensive to some)

OMG...I love my neighbors to say this up front...but *deep breath*

Periodically about 1x year we get hit by ice storms here, that generally happens like clock work last Jan week/ first Feb week...Most of you may have seen on TV last year what it did to KY (we're in middle TN).
Now 2 outta my my 5 neighbors are from Florida on top of all else...Well all my neighbors are FREAKING out like the world is coming to an end since they seen the weather forecast (ice storm rolling in again)
What the heck people!? What have you done during hurricane season??? I may also add these people have Fireplaces....So there ya go smarty you have HEAT and guess what back in the day...guess how the mama's cooked YES on fire stoves!!! So get yourself some canned food, take the label off stick it on there. And the other 1 freaking got gas - Honey you can ignite a gas stove w/out power you know...
And the last guy, he's REALLY acting like the world is coming to a end, got himself 10 propane tanks a stack wood that'll last you all winter and his wife is filling up every jug she got with water (wonder if they realize if the power is out, the pressure from the water tower indeed does still pump it to your house)

I'm serious these folks are 10-20yrs older then me, shouldn't they KNOW better...I only been here lil over 1 year and I know what to do!? And I have NO fireplace and no gas heat!
If you life in a area like this: Deal with it! Don't freak out like a total idiot over NOTHING.....Look at least year so what the power was out ~1day till they had the main lines up again....let's face it any good power line only holds SO MUCH ice its just normal to happen until such day the US built their systems underground like its common overseas...

Oh I'm just soooo annoyed by their stupidity right now

I can empathize completely. Every time they forecast a Noreaster here, people flock to the grocery store to buy "supplies". Problem is they don't know when to stop. Within a few hours theres not a loaf of bread, a jug of milk, or a dozen eggs, or bottled water left on the shelves.

How long do these people think they're going to be stranded? They're buying enough for 2 months. The blizzard of 77 wasn't even a month long crisis.

Hahaha thats some funny stuff right there. I live in Maine where we get ice storms as well. We once went without power for 11 days. Couldnt even get out of our driveway for that amount of time. I dont know about anyone else but come on, Ive usually always got enough food in the house to last at least a week in advance. Lets not even get into snowstorms...

Well I am nice, I try real hard anyway.....but this whole 'the world comes to an end tomorrow' attitude is just getting me, I find it totally stupid and i'm sorry but like said earlier here I ALWAYS got plenty food in my house.
Its just a retard attitude IMO

Even though I hate power outages, I love wicked weather. LOL I am from San Diego (mountain area, though part of my life there), and even people that are from this area (Spokane County) sweated over last winter. I was thinking, "this is the way winter should be". We had a BIG winter last winter. It was a pain I have to admit to have to get on the barn roof a few times to push the snow off, non-ending snow to push, and we did have some ice damming that caused leakage in our window frames....not a good thing in our house....beautiful cherry wood inside. This winter is whimpy. Drives me nuts! I love thunder, lightening (except I do worry about fires in the summer -- was in a horrible fire in San Diego in 2003), wicked snow, pour down rain, etc.

People can overreact at times. There can be worries to contend with some of the natural weather extremes, but it sure beats BORING weather we had in most of San Diego.

P.S. What I have noticed is that as people age they do become more cautious and want to be extra sure things will be ok and that they are prepared for the worst. My husband is like this. It drives me a little nuts, but who knows, there may come a time when I am thankful that he worries more than I do and was extra prepared.

Holly, you should be in Kentucky when we have tornadoes. Angel, I don't think we are supposed to get the snowstorm quite as bad as you guys but our power goes out at the drop of a hat. What bothers me is the utility company charges us the same whether we have power or not!
