If you had a heart attack, what were your symptoms?

I can't believe it, I'm 52 and I thought that being a roofer and carrying shingles and ladders all the time would keep me healthy. I honestly look very healthy and I'm very strong for my age. Actually, I'm a lot stronger than some of the younger guys that I have work for me but on Aug. 17th, I actually had a heart attack. It felt like I was being choked and a 200 lbs. person was sitting on my chest and left arm. While in the hospital, my 39 year old room mate had the exact same thing as me. One artery 100 % blocked and the other 65% blocked. He only got the chest pains and nothing else. For those of you who did have a real heart attack, what were your symptoms??I did have prior symptoms one week before the real deal but was too stupid to admit to myself that something was wrong. I had a tightening of my neck, chest and left arm but after 2 minutes it would stop, so I told myself that it was just muscle spasms. It would happen once or twice a day for the week prior to my heart attack. Don't be a fool like I was. If you have ANY DOUBT, Don't wait. I hope that this may open your EYES

I'm so sorry this happened to you! I'm 50 and the last thing on my mind is having a heart attack! I wish you a very speedy recovery!! Thanks for the warning symptoms. Better prepared than naive.

I also suffered a heart attack . Was on my Birthday. Symptoms were very much like the feeling I got when ex- mother-inlaw came to visit. Tightness in the chest, Clenched jaw,and blinding pain in the neck and head. Happily,, I survived both the heart attack and the ex- mother-inlaw.

The most important medication in your fish medicine cabinet is.. Clean water.

Howling with laughter here........

p.s. - that has to be the worst birthday gift ever.

Animal testing is a terrible idea; they get all nervous and give the wrong answers.

My brother had a heart attack at 35 years of age. I don't know what his symptoms were because he was in Japan at the time.It was pretty scary because heart disease runs in my family. Brian, I wish you a speedy recovery.

Thanks Kym for the kind words. I just hope that other people won't be as foolish as I was when I just pasted off my symptoms as muscle spasms. I can't stress this enough, if you have any kind of chest pain, get help. When I was in the hospital, my 39 year old room mate had the same thing going on with him but his symptoms varied in the fact that he only had the chest pain and no arm pain. And today, I found out that the manager of the roofing supply store that I get my materials from, also had a heart attack 3 weeks ago, he's 58 and he had chest and back pain, and like me, he passed off the first chest pains he got the day before his actual attack as spasms also.Kym, I guess now that we hit the 50 mark, it's time to start taking care of ourselves. I don't want to worry anyone, I just want people to be aware. Good health and happiness to you!!

I'm really glad you pulled through!!! Which was tougher to survive, the heart attack or the ex-mother in law??

Thankyou for the good wishes. You sound like you are still young enough to do the right things like no smoking and easy on the drinking and watching your cholesterol and fat intake. I hope your brother is well and take care of yourself.
