It was a pain I have to admit to have to get on the barn roof a few times to push the snow off, non-ending snow to push, and we did have some ice damming that caused leakage in our window frames....not a good thing in our house....beautiful cherry wood inside. This winter is whimpy. Drives me nuts! I love thunder, lightening (except I do worry about fires in the summer -- was in a horrible fire in San Diego in 2003), wicked snow, pour down rain, etc.

People can overreact at times. There can be worries to contend with some of the natural weather extremes, but it sure beats BORING weather we had in most of San Diego.
Holly, you would have loved the winter rain storm we had blow through here last week. Heavy rains for days, accompanied by gale force winds, thunder, lightening & flooding. I went down to the beach everyday just to check out the surf. It was awesome! The waves were HUGE. Some guy even jumped off the Pier with his board just so he could say he rode a 20 footer. He said the ride was worth every cent of the fine.

During the storm I had to be out on the road quite a bit and instead of getting mad I had to laugh. You don't know bad drivers until you've been on the road with Southern Californians in the rain and based on the prior posts it seems the whole world knows how bad they are! LOL.

Best part I find....these storm can hit ya ANY time.....so why ONLY prepare for the YOU think are real bad instead of just BEing prepared period(back up heat, cooking, food yaddy ya)...So what if on this storm we only get the tail end or something and you feel all safe now and then BAM 2 weeks later we get really slammed down....I don't get that attitude really..specially NOT the food matter...Granted I'm someone who HAS TO eat 24/7 with a few breaks inbetween so I ALWYS have plenty food around me but common just be clever, put some can's in the house & done...I don't get that; not at all....

I live in PA and we get our fair share of weather catastrophes. We just got flooded in my area...right after a intense winds for a few days...and before that we got hit with snow pretty hard...I've lived in PA for 17 years of my life...and I'm 19...and the ridiculousness is unbelievable. Snow...everyone rushes to the grocery stores...Rain...people forget how to drive...hail...the world is gonna end...drought...people pretend that every drop is their last...intense winds...afraid everything is gonna fall...it's like "Hello! We live right underneath all of New England...we are gonna get bad weather!"

Well, when I lived in Colorado I don't remember drivers being as stupid as they are here. I guess I shouldn't say that they know how to drive in it. I guess they're more used to driving in snow. Here, no matter what the road conditions, people STOP on green and GO on red.

For all of you fireplace advocates: fireplaces actually make your house colder, as they suck in all of the air in your house, which is replaced by cold outside air. Fireplaces are good for huddling around and cooking, but not for heating your house.

We have a gas fireplace that we never use. Last time we tried it, my mother forgot to open the flue and we started smelling gas. She's been too afraid to use it since then. We've got cheese and crackers, peanut butter and cereal we can eat. lol

But it does beat NO heat AT ALL if your power is out for few days and you have no back up of no sort - That I can guarantee you from first hand exp...and makes for a neat indoor cooking too
