First time camping with the kid and dog.

So I got 4 days off from work this weekend and the wife and I thought we would try to go camping. This would be the first time we had going in 2 years and the very first time we took our daughter now she is 3 years. We also have a Great Dane puppy that we ha d to take has he would have not done good by himself. Home alone he would have torn stuff up (especially shoes LoL). So we took him. Now he is an inside dog and not use to being outside. It wasn't that hot this weekend here never even got in the 80's but you would have thought it was 110° looking at him on the first day. LoL

Now we got there on Friday night about 8:30 just about the time it is getting dark. This is after we ran around all day looking for a tent big enough for all of us (that was a real pain in the butt. LoL). So now if you can imagine this but we pulled into the campsite and we all get out and it is dark. So I have to find the flashlights and lantern. I finally find them unloading the Jeep as I go. I give the wife and kid a flashlight I got the lantern and the tent. Now this is a new tent I have to setup in the dark pretty much by myself as the wife is having to watch Mckayla (our daughter) and the dog. She does help me a few times when I asked her to hold something but not much. It took what seemed like hours getting the tent setup in all actuality it probably took 30 mins but with fighting with the stupid thing and not being able to find the instructions until I torn the tent down LoL it seems like forever. The first night sleeping in a tent was a chore also. We have the huge tent so we would have room for everyone and the first night Mckayla and Rio (the dog) ended up sleeping with us on one side of the tent. Rio was on our bed and Mckayla was too so not much room. I eventually got McKayla to sleep in her own bed but it took some convincing. Rio pretty much didn't move the first night. The second night was much better. Everyone went to their own beds. During the day we went walking around the campsite. We went down to the lake which was freezing cold as it was only 58°outside at the time. Later that day we went back when it was warmer and waited in the water for a few. We all went to the playground they had there for the kids. Now keep in mind this "campsite" was not that far out of town like 20 mins and it really isn't out in the middle of nowhere like the places I normally go camping. Being this was the first time McKayla went camping and she only being 3 I wanted it to be kid friendly.

At first I thought the whole trip was going to a disaster but it turned out to be a good weekend with the family.
Here's a few pics my wife took.

Great Pics! Sweet little girl!! Looks like you had fun. Thanks for sharing!!

(Keep an eye on the dog too around the water, docks and boats... Boxers and Danes and any others with the big chests can easily drown if they fall or jump in. They get tipped over and can't get their heads up. A friend of mine lost her Boxer that way.) Just spreading awareness.

Nice pictures , You'll find that first one with you and the daughter and the dog to be priceless in years to come, nothing better than camping with the kids and dogs, our youngest is 4 and she loves camping already. In my opinion theres no such thing as a disasterous camp out, just adventureous haha.

Thanks Jakie! Thats the first time I have heard of that happening to a dog. I have had two danes now and the first one loved the water after a short time of being around it. He loved to swim and never had any problem. I have seen and know of many that have done the same with no problems. This boy we have now doesn't like the water so not much to worry about for now. LoL

It was definitely an adventure for sure. Thinking about it now it wasn't bad at all. Just at the time it seemed to be disasterous (well just the first few hours). We will be going back the next time I get a long weekend off again. My daughter keeps say she wants to go back. LoL

Aww!!! She IS SUPERcute! I love that bashfull little grin!
And I've TOTALLY been there! We used to go camping waaaaaaaay out in the middle of nowhere all the time (love it) but since having kids. . . yeah, you kind of want to be close to a hospital JIC that first bee sting turns into something unexpected. I hate the stupid 'family' campsites - but it's better than nothing, and the kids have a fantastic time. We've learned the hard way (boy have we ever!) to get there as early as possible! Setting up in the sunset/dark is NO fun - plus it's better for the kids to have time to explore the tent during the daylight, so they're more comfortable sleeping at night. I'm SO glad that everything turned around for you, and you guys had a fantastic trip! I'm jealous. . . I need 4 days off! We usually go in the autumn - similar weather, and perfect for camping. No bugs, cool enough for the fire but warm enough for a teeshirt in the afternoon! Your little one will NEVER forget her camping trips - nor will the pup, I suspect!
