Are you referring to the fish in the aquarium at the dentist's office, Danielle? Or the issue of Nemo being taken from the ocean by divers in the first place?
With respect to the aquarium at the dentist's office, I may not be remembering it right, but I thought the idea was that the dentist's daughter made life miserable for the aquarium occupants, and not simply the fact that they were living in an aquarium.
As for Nemo being taken from the ocean in the first place, fortunately the folks at ORA
and elsewhere are breeding more and more species of fish in captivity so that they don't have to be taken from the ocean.
I may just be rationalizing, but sometimes I wonder if taking fish and reef creatures from the ocean in moderation
for the sake of the aquarium trade might be a good thing for fish and reef creatures. I would hope that as a result of aquarium enthusiasts having access to and being able to appreciate these creatures, there are many more people aware of the importance of and interested in preserving their natural habitats than there otherwise would be, and hopefully a greater chance that they will be preserved as a result.
Anyhow, that was a great movie... but I still hate being at the LFS and hearing a small child crying, "but I want Nemo!!!"
