Family Trip, Let's hear your input!

I have just booked a trip for this weekend coming up to Washington DC with my family. I have a hotel and I am set to go, except one thing, what to see first? We have 2 nights and 3 days there, I know there are tons of things to go see, but I was wondering if any of you have been there, and what you recommend. Here are some of the things I want to see, but I have a 9 year old and a 7 year old, who I know will want something fun to do as well as my wife.

1. Law Enforcement Memorial
2. Arlington Cemetery
3 Monuments
4 National Aquarium

I used to live in Arlington years ago, not too far from the Arlington National Cemetery so I'd say go see that.

That's definitely on my list, I'm taking the kids there to pay our respects for the men and women who fought and died, so we could go there freely! I already taught my son to thank everyone he sees in a military uniform and how to watch out for the older veterans with the retired hat's on and to thank them as well. The law enforcement memorial is for me, to say goodbye to some fallen brothers in blue.

Is there anything kid oriented as in museums that will hold my children's interest? or anything that my wife might be interested in, perhaps a house cleaning, or cooking museum...(I'm joking) I can feel the smack on the back of my head already!

I really don't know where else you can go visit. I was 7-8 years old when we lived there.lol My Dad was stationed there back in the 60's. He was in the Marine Corps. I think its great that you are teaching your children to respect our servicemen and women.

I've been a bunch of times and IMO, you should def. go to the Smithsonian. You probably won't get to cover all the museums in a day but my favorites are the museum of Natural History and the Air & Space museum.

Google Smithsonian and all the museums will come up with maps etc.... And I believe it's still free to visit all of them. Bonus!

Arlington cemetery is really overwhelming and a must see too.

DC is awesome. Check out the National Zoo. Just... Stay away from the invert house...
The Smithsonian is really cool. The Natural History Museum is pretty interesting to see. A couple exhibits were closed when I went, but they should be open now (Lucky).

I agree on the Smithsonian. My Dad was a Marine Corp officer and when we were stationed on the east coast we did our DC family vacation there (I was 7) and that was my favorite part of the visit. My sister & I were absolutely enthralled with everything about that museum. Walking every single step of the Washington Memorial I could have done without.

Ok added them to the list, How about things to do at night I see most of the museums close at 5:30.

For the night........Does your family like Baseball?.............Both the Nationals and Orioles are close by, might want to take in a game if the teams are in town that night..........You would have to check the schedules.......Just an idea......

Can't help you with family oriented things to do at night. I was never there with children; just adults so we usually just went out to dinner and bar to bar after that for cocktails.
