EKG scheduled tomorrow, wish us luck, please!

Hey Guys-

I had an issue over the weekend. Not me, my dog. His belly became seriously distended. To the Emergency clinic we went. One ultrasound (normal) follwed by a belly tap for fluid for cytology testing showed inconclusive results. He goes in for an EKG tomorrow, (yes, there is such a thing as vet cardiologists) performed by William Herndon, DVM, a top cardiologist in his field. After the research I've done, and which has been confirmed by my primary vet Doc and the ER DVM, Doc has one of two things: a heart condition or that dreaded "C" word. I'm hoping for the heart, as it's treatable. The type of cancer, should he have it, is a poor prognosis, as it's untreatable. Even if it was, only a desperate person puts a dog through chemo at 12 years of age. I'm hoping for some type of minor heart issue and that he still has a few years left. I love my little buddy.

OMG!! I hope your little buddy is ok. I'm crossing my fingers for you and hoping for the best outcome possible.

Keep us posted and here's a hug in the meantime ( ).

Animal testing is a terrible idea; they get all nervous and give the wrong answers.

Thanks everyone. Just four more hours to go until we go in for the EKG. I'm always amazed by Doc's good nature. Already his belly has filled up with fluid (they drained off 3 liters (!) on 2/10) and it can't be comfortable for him, but he still has his great disposition. When they drained it they had to insert a needle into his abdomen, lots of times dogs won't sit still for this process and have to be put under. Doc was so sweet, he just lay their on his back, wagging his tail as they did it.
(Try telling the backward opossums he's sweet, lol)
