I rarely buy things online so I have no idea how those websites work, but I would never go to a persons house unless I had my boyfriend, dad, or a guy friend with me. Yes, that might be sexist, but that's how it works these days. If they saw that you were with a guy, there's a less likely chance anything would happen than if you were with a girl. Sad but true fact. You can never be too careful. Ok, I'll end my "mom" rant.haha 21 going on 45! :P

Most of these ads are for places 45mins to an hour away.. so I don't know the area well and my friends don't have "time" to ride up there.

If I really wanted something I'd be willing to throw an extra $5 for them to meet me at a gas station etc.

The only tank I found in my area comes with fish which probably means I have to bag and transport them myself even though I don't really want the fish, plus it was more than I want to pay.

let me bore you with a story.............
i needed a bird rehoming,and i ended up at a guys house with said bird.(think i saw his advert)
he took me through his house which would raise the hairs on anyones neck,and we went into the garden,where he had a small avery,and we poped the bird inside,fine,but then i had to walk back through the house,which as you can see i made it out,i told my OH later that evening
what i had done,as he had noticed the bird was gone,he fliped his lid.
no one knew where i had gone,i hadn't left a note,and when i told him the chaps name,OH nearly fainted,
turns out said bird man axed his dad when he was a kid.

just want you to be aware that even animal peeps can be weirdos.

but i'm not weird you can come to my house anytime.

Yeah I'm not going to.. I guess I'll just have to save up for new tanks and start hitting up yard sales and thrift stores big time.

You can really only use your own judgment. If you get any "bad vibes" when speaking to someone, take heed. I'm happier going to pick stuff up than I am having people come to my house. Frankly, I'd prefer to go to a given address than meet somewhere else. I figure that somebody would be less likely to do something when you've got their address to send the police to.

Anyway, I think you are sensible to be cautious. Surely someone could be convinced to take a drive with you? I think it'd be quite a fun outing. What about your brother-in-law? Has your sister got kids? Maybe you could babysit in exchange for a "loan" of your brother in law for an afternoon?

Good luck in eventually getting what you are after.

Kym, you're probably not worried because you drive a giant truck and most people assume folks who drive giant trucks are also armed to the teeth. All you need is one of those gun racks across the back window and maybe some deer antlers for the front end. Add some rust and a bumper sticker that reads "My other truck is an M-1 Abrams Main Battle Tank" and no one will mess with you.

Unfortunately all my family is either out of state or 4 hours away since I'm at college. Its coming to the end of the semester so all my friends have projects and papers and tests to study for (me included). Maybe once the semester is over I can find people to ride with.
