I've been watching the first season of that Discovery Channel show "River Monsters." Apparently there were reports of large Wels catfish attacking swimmers in a lake in Berlin. The guy determined that Wels might be big enough to do some real damage but aren't man-eaters and that they were likely just defending nesting sites rather than trying to make meals of the swimmers.

To answer your question, I'd think he'd have trouble turning around with the dimensions of a 10 gallon. Don't quote me on that though. Might want to measure the tank

That would freak me out! We live on a lake at home and I always make my dog get in and splash around to scare the fish before I get in. (I'm a wuss when it comes to fish). In GA big 'ole cat fish will come up and bite your finger Doesn't hurt but its really freaky.

pfffffffff how very dare you come here and ask to put that poor creature into the 10glln
knowing full well he won't be able to turn around.and a HOB just won't cut it,
i mean you really should use a canister filter.
hahahhhahahahahhahahhhahhaha

it's amazing what swims in our water,it really is,and these are the things we can see.
What is out there that manages to keep hidden ?
i really like watching those programmes too.

when you set up a new tank, hide an extra
sponge or two behind some decor, that way you have
something seeded for you next filter.
