See I kind of have an issue with that because since the economic crisis so many people who actually DO need welfare are on it. But I understand what you mean about people being on it that don't need it.

You know you actually made me giggle PG.. my friend said the exact same thing yesterday when we were talking about this whole situation.

Unfortunately GA has a LOT of people on welfare so I know they would never take that away.

I'm sorry if I'm strong in my opinon, and I hope I didn't offend anyone.

I'm not in GA, but my sister is and I told her about this - she's much more outspoken than I am.

I am currently a single mom, with 2 girls, one is disabled, I work full time one job, one part-time, and I go to school full time (graduating this summer - finally!) and I own my own home.

The only aid I have ever recieved from the government (even though I am a goverment employee) is my student loans and grants - though I qualify for a lot of government aid, espeically with my daughter - I just don't feel right taking it.

If they raise my tuition or cut funding I couldn't do it and I would be furious to say the least. Lack of education leads to poverty, and poverty is a vicious cycle which is hard to get out of. Can you tell I'm a bit passionate about that?

Okay - I'll end the rant.... *grin*

I know what you mean. If they raise my tuition much more I won't be able to afford it.. my student loans are already ridiculous.

ifish2fish- I meant to ask, what's your major? Student Loans? Urrgh. Mine took me years and years to pay off.

If you don't stand up for something you'll fall for anything...

My major is Communication Sciences and Disorders.. or pre-speech therapy. I have unsubsidized federal stafford loans which means they are already accruing interest. I also have the GA HOPE scholarship which is ***supposed*** to pay for my tuition and $300 in books but it actually only covers part of my tuition and no books.

My career requires a minimum of a masters degree so even though I'll be making very good money straight out of grad school (provided I get a job quickly) I'll still have not only undergrad but also grad loans to pay back. I'm actually considering a minor in computer science or business just so I can get a good paying job while I'm in grad school. And if I decide to go for my doctorate... I don't even want to think about all these loans.
