calling all bookworms!!!

This is a completely random question, but I need some help!!!

I'm looking for a good new book to read. I really like the early american history stuff....ya know, paul revere, george w....the revolutionary war.

I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good book about the facts (not so much the military strategy) but the overall story through-out the revolution....the battles, traitors...who fought for who, who led who....pretty much all the fun stuff you learned in H.S....but not in the high school text book style. I am just looking for a factual, but readable book about tales throught the revolutionary period in America...

any body read books like that or have a suggestion??!

how's that for "off topic thread"!?!?!?!

This isn't exactly what you asked for, if at all, but Present and Accounted For by Tom Oestreicher I've heard is good and it was a bestseller plus it's being made into a made-for-tv movie. Mr. O was my Consumer Ecs teacher actually. :)

Here's the summary from his website: "From its beginning as a simple research project through many twists and turns, four dedicated twentieth-century researchers focus on finding twenty-three missing Civil War soldiers who seem to have just vanished. Here is a vivid and compelling tale of intrigue with more than just a hint of a government conspiracy and cover up. The reader follows Mike Carls and his team as they use modern day technology in an attempt to solve a 130-year old mystery. But don't guess the ending!"

It's not about the Revolutionary War (it takes place during the French & Indian War), but if you haven't read The Last of the Mohicans by James Fenimore Cooper I recommend giving that a shot.

For non-fiction, I've heard a lot of good things about David Hacket Fischer's Washington's Crossing.

I read "Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry."
Sorry about the size it is copy/paste
Summary from
Mildred Taylor's Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry is a stirring portrayal of an African-American family confronting racism in the Deep South during the 1930's.

Roll of Thunder is also a coming-of-age novel, narrated from the perspective of a young girl growing up on a farm during the Great Depression. The farm is an important symbol of the Logan family's independence, and the narrator describes life on the farm as part of her story. Understanding background information to the Depression era can help you understand more about the setting of Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry.

First published in 1976, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry won the Newberry Medal for young adult literature. The "Author's Note" at the beginning of the novel stresses the importance of memoirs and family storytelling as a way to keep past eras alive and meaningful to future generations.
