Uggghhh!Uuugghhh! Nasty bug!! Yes, they can make your cat & dog really sick, and if someone is allergic to bees, a bad spider bite is worse. I read an article (web hunting, LOL) that compared a black widow and a brown recluse spider - the brown recluse was way worse! But if I were you with that many, I'd be calling in the exterminators PRONTO if not sooner!!!

When I was in school{long, long ago} There was a boy in the 6th grade that got bit by a brown recluse. Before the doctors could figure out what was wrong, he ended up losing both of his legs, one arm up to the elbow and the other arm at the wrist. They are some really bad spiders. All I have heard about the black widow is you have swelling and feel yucky. Still, BOTH of them creep me out and I DO NOT even blink an eye when I squish them!

About once or twice a year one or two of our dogs with get bitten by a spider. Don't really know what kind, but they swell up, then the spot will open and drain. It's pretty nasty.

That poor kid! That's terrible. You haven't even started to live your life and you're forever altered by a lousy spider bite. Sheesh. Redchigh, are you still reading this post??

Yeah, for the record to Redchigh, I didn't kill Ms Giant Black Widow. I just relocated her to the woods. I carry stink bugs outside all the time. I've relocated mice from my house. I won't even think about buying a mousetrap.

The only thing I will kill without regard... alright, I admit, I run screaming like a girl and call my husband to kill... are waterbugs (the big cockroach things) and millipedes. *shudder*

I leave spiders all over my house to take care of the fruit flies we get. They don't scare me.

A brown recluse, however, would get the sneaker treatment.

Oh, you'd hate the moths that visit my garden during the evening. They are known as hummingbird moths and they come to visit the Nicotiana flowers in my garden that open in the early evening. I love watching and listening to these guys. They really do sound like hummingbirds! As much as you have a phobia towards moths you have to admit these guys are beauties, right??

They are gorgeous Moths. I had one at my butterfly bush last year and I'd never seen one before. You're so lucky you get them all the time! Love that picture!

I. Just. Can't. Stand. Creepy. Crawlies. I'm absolutely paranoid. If its some really tiny insect I'll flick it off of trap it in a tissue and flush it down the toilet. Can't stand the thought of having squished bug guts on the bottom of my shoes. Can't even slap a mosquitoe because the grossest thing is seeing it dead smeared on your hand/arm/leg along with your blood it just sucked. I get disgusted. I had a really bad experience (I won't get into it) with leeches/daddy long legs on a canoe trip and won't get into a river/lake/marsh ever again. Because I heard daddy long legs are the most poisonous bug there is, even though they can't inject'use their poison, I'm so terrified. I have to get my little 12 year old brother to kill a basement bug fo me. I guess I would be the biggest sissy here; I scream shamelessly if one of those annoying cankerworms land on me. I don't think I have ever encountered a black widow, its probably too cold where I live for them to survive (up to -30C/-22F). Thank goodness for that!

I'm glad you agree! I plant every flower known that they prefer to visit because I love watching them. They are the perfect moth.

@creamcookie- you do have a serious "issue", just like me. I understand. I *freakout*, "go into adrenaline overdrive" and panic when earthquakes rumble under me. I'm not much better when it comes to flying. I guess it all boils down to "events" that I have no control over. Like me ALWAYS having to be the driver when going somewhere together in the same car with friends. I'm the perfect example of a control freak. Sad, but true.
