So I attended my first ever fish auction yesterday, which was put on by our local aquarium society. I am amazed at the great deals I was able to find. I went with $95, and spent about $30 on a membership and some raffle tickets.
With the remaining $65, I walked out with some java fern, java moss, anubias barteri, ludwigia natans, a bag of guppies, 5 tropical fish magazines (March 2011 and each month back from there), and Vol. 2 of Baensh/Riehl's Aquarium Atlas.
I think the Aquarium Atlas is the thing most worthy of bragging about... I got it for $16 when new copies of the book retail for $80+ anywhere else I've seen it...
Overall it was a fantastic day as far as I'm concerned... I'd been looking for those specific plants (other than the ludwigia, which was an impulse purchase) but although they're supposed to be common, could never find them in stores (or if I did, they were ridiculously expensive for ones that didn't look very good).
What's the best thing you've ever found at an auction? I'm interested in hearing stories of sweet deals!
