Artists or peoples advice on kraylon?

So I just started using kraylon today for my charcoal drawings. First off, how many coats do you recommend? I used 1, it still smudged so I did another coat and it seems to be a bit better. Also what do you recommend for protective clothing? I dont want it to get all over me and me reek or taste of it because I have birds and my trainers horse & zonkey like to grab my sleeves and hold on. I was going to use a bandana so I dont inhale it so much, and eye protection because it killed my eyes. Any other advice? Sorry for posting here, but noone on DeviantArt is being useful and I figured there may be a *few* artists or people with experience on here.

what is the purpose of kraylon with charcoal drawings? Im not an artist but both my sons are. the youngest is phenominal and has gotten pretty hard into charcoal lately. is it so it doesnt smudge up? ive noticed when he puts them in his portolio its kinda messy. any advice is welcome as maybe dad can shock him with some new info :D also what are some sites that you like? he s mainly pencil and charcoal but wanting to expand into paints.
thanks, Mike C.

hairspray works better on charcoal/pastel drawings than ANY of the brand types

Oh, thank you Daisy! I will remember that, Kraylon is $10

Mike--I use it so the charcoal wont smudge, I hate when my artwork smudges and I have to redo it! I use http://www.deviantart.com and I have heard of http://sheezyart.com but no experience with it =) If he wants to challenge himself, which I will be doing, http://100themechallenge.deviantart.com/ is the place.

cool thanks galaxygirl, I will pass along the info to him, I think he will like that challenge. he will be going to a place called quartz mountain this summer to study under some professional artists ( I think your all pros) or should I say acclaimed artists. this will be his first real exposure, we are all excited and Im so proud.

firm hold hairspray works the best even on natral charcoal nothing worse than creating something only to have it "migrate"
