Let me explain...

About 10 years ago (sheesh I was a kid-) a friend turned me onto this MUD called 'The Afterlife'.

(A mud, which stands for multi-user dungeon, is a text-based game. An example of a the game would be:

By the Altar
You are by the temple altar in the northern end of Temple of New
Thalos. A huge altar made of highly polished black onyx is standing
in front of you. Behind this altar sits a twelve foot tall statue of
Lokimar, one of the highest gods in all the lands.

[Exits: south down]
( 6) A tombstone is visible here.
(Good) (White Aura) The Healer stands here ready to heal you.
Don't worry it's color coded in game and much easier to read.

Don't jump to conclusions, they're incredibly fun, completely free (always was, always will), and addictive.
They're also the FIRST type of MMO game ever invented. (MMO stands for massively multiplayer online (game))
You can chat, fight, do whatever. True, it does revolve around combat and leveling, but so does every other online game out there.

Basically, this game was created for free for the community that then existed.
Many people (Lots of my friends) spent hours on building, tweaking, and writing for the game. Often those hours would turn into days, days into weeks, but it was a labor of love.

The game is kind of dying, not because it's not fun, or because it can't compete (well, graphically, it loses to everything... but this kind of game often results in a much more immersive experience- compare reading a great book to a movie. There's a reason movies are never as good as the books their based on.)

When it comes down to it, this post is a beg. Come try it for free- there's nothing to download, the software is already on your computer if you use a windows pc.
The character creation process can be as complicated or simple as you want.

There are several regulars, myself included, that will do anything you need in-game. (because players are desperately needed. No newbies come around anymore.)

The link to the game web site is here: www.theafterlifemud.com

To connect, all you have to do is find your telnet program that came with windows, and type:
telnet Afterlife-Mud.org 7777

It's not even case sensitive, but make sure you get the spaces where they should be. If you have any problems, google it.
If you like it, gain a couple levels doing n00b things, and your character will be saved forever. (seriously, until recently I didn't log in for about 6 years straight and my character was still there waiting for me to log back in.)

My character there is 'redchigh' but 'Lupa', 'florin', and 'marasfelt' will be glad to help you too with any questions.

I won't be logging in right now, (errands to run) but I wanted to post this and see if anyone is interested. If you want me to log in, you can post here, pm me, or just log in. I'll probably be there after I finish my errands. (I have to go mail some fish. :p)

Oh, and the game's not built for little kids. There's nothing overtly wrong or anything, but it really was built to cater to the 15-30+ age group. :) I'm 26 and I'm pretty sure florin is older than me.

Man that post was long.

I'm online now, and my character is lonely. Feel free to log in or PM me for help...

BTW, there are tons of good "mud clients" that make the game a bit easier, but they're not required.

Personally, I use "AL client" for my windows PC. It's totally free, and you just have to click 'connect' > 'connect to remote host' > afterlife-mud.org in the first blank and 7777 in the second blank, and hit connect.

I'll be online for a while...

I remember years and years ago I had a friend who was really into a MUD (don't remember the name of the game, though). I don't really do so well with text-based games like that because my OCD tendencies prevent me from skipping over text, which is something you really need to learn how to do in order to play these games with any sort of efficiency.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy perhaps? I played that for hours and hours on end back then. :)

I don't really skip over test, but I imagine it would be tough if you had to take 30 something steps to your destination and stopped to read each one...

Hm.. I just hate to see a good game die because only 5 people play it.
