i was given a 5 gallon marineland corner aquarium. this tank has a built in filter, if no one knows what im talking about i can post pictures. 2 days ago i put live sand and of course filled it up. it is STILL cloudy. i am starting to think this tank is not going to be even worth it. please help me! is the built in filter alright or do i need to change? why is it still cloudy? OR do i need to just stop this tank right here and put it up.

I would not use any type of filtration on a 5 gallon tank. Just live rock, sand, and a small power head for circulation. The filter is only going to trap oganic matter, causing it to break down into nitrates and phosphates. The live rock and sand are more than capable of handling any bioload you would put in a 5 gallon tank.

Sure there are. I had a 2.5g tank that had a rio 50 in it. It worked well for about 9mo and then i took the tank down. The only thing is with the RIO line of pumps, they can start to shock ater a period, so perhaps look for a different brand, but You could put a Maxi Jet 600 or 800 in there and it should be fine.

As for the active carbon, I personally wouldn't use it in a small tank like that unless you knew something was dropped into it that should have been. Water changes of 10% should be fine or 20% just to make it an even 1g.
