Can you go $250 on lighting? I know it sounds terrible but you can't imagine how long term that can make your tank by not skimping on lights

I would get as many t5 mixed bulbs (10K, actinic) you are willing to pay for, check around for measurements that closely match your tank. Power compact setups work fine and are also affordable. many will recommend led setups for you now which cost as much as t5s. Im still exclusive to one of the flourescent models mentioned over LED's for my own reasons so at least you have these few options to start.

the cheapest lighting you can go with is compact flourecents...i run 2 27 watt 6500 kelvin and a 20 watt actinic and i paid under $20 and they fit in a regular incandecent top...i had to DIY one to fit three on top but i have several corals in there and once again i dont think you can get any cheaper than that....if you gonna blast a few hundred dollars why not roll up on a full setup thet is larger...there always cregs list..
