Gonna be back in the game!

I retired my 100G rimless reef to the museum late last year because of my increase traveling due to kids growing up and leaving for college, however this reef thing is in my blood and it's what defines who i am. Sooo I decided to get back in the game with the challenges of a nano. I contacted my previous aquarium builder and am going to order a nano custom built with an over flow to a sump, a possible closed loop to eliminate clutter in the tank. it will be 18x18x16 high 3 side starphire polished glass. The tank hopefully will be rerady by end of february (he's extremely busy but he makes the best tanks, so i must wait!) I will be using a new LED system, TBD, for lighting to eliminate heat issues and i will also build a DIY auto topoff system so when i go on vacation i won't have to worry about evaporation. I will post as progress happens! so stay tuned. I hope to be as successful as my 100G. but in the mean time here's a pic of the old tank.

How crazy is it that JUST TODAY I read your old thread about you quitting? I don't remember how I stumbled upon it (think it was a link at the bottom of a thread) but I didn't realize that was so long ago. It's cool that you're coming back though :p Saltwater seems crazy haha

Well, i haven't decided on specific live stock as yet. But i will design the system to be able to keep any coral from softies to sps. I think i will have more inverts and just a couple of small fish along with sps on the top and lps towards the middle of the tank. I'll probably have a few softies too. One thing's for sure, i will only keep corals with colors. I don't like brown! i also plan on scaping minimally and covering the entire rock work so the rocks wont be visible. That's the plan, but we'll see how it turns out.

went by the local tank builder shop today and gave him my specs. wow, he's gotten big! when i first bought a tank from him he was building them from his 1 car garage, now he's in a big warehouse! because i am a return customer and because i've sent numerous customers to him who he's built aquariums for, he gave me a price thats unbelieveable! So I'm definitely in! gonna do a nano! here's a few pics of his work.

a tank similar to what i'm ordering.

look at edge of the finished tank! i really like his work!

just for fun, hees a 9 foot tank i saw that he said is going in a wall!

can't wait to get my tank going!

i want this tank to look sleek with as little distractions on top or around the tank. so for lighting i'm down to two contenders. I've seen the kessil led lights in person and it gives a really nice look and shimmer like metal halides. I also saw the ecoxotic sol nano at a local lfs. i haven't seen the sol nano on but i do like the sleek look to it and the fact that you can adjust color spectrum. here's a picture of the kessil

here's the kessil led

and the sol nano

I think they are both powerful enought to keep sps, lps, and softies. I like the coloration of the kessil but i also know the sol can adjust spectrum, give moon lights, and simulate clouds and lightning. To be truthful i'm leaning towards the sol nano. decisions, decisions!

the single unit of the sol looks cleaner IMO. very nice tanks too.
