Is it still stuck in a location you can't get to? Oh I need a pic of this if it is!
(I'm a FW keeper but this kind of stuff I like to follow.)

i just looked again. there is a tiny (and i mean TINY) space where he could conceivably be hiding but i turned everything off and let it sit for 30 min. checked and still didn't see him. ran my finger over the tiny spot and nothing. both gobies never did come out in the open, i only saw them actually take food ONE time in about 3 weeks. anyhoo, i am wondering if he found his way back into the tank before i put the guard on. just don't know.

i just tested my water. ammonia 0, trites 0, trates 10, calc 480. if he's still back there, he's still alive. if he was dead, i would expect an ammonia spike. hrrmmmm.....

See to this one thing, Ya gotta be able to remove the box and dump it out. Don't know how you'd do that though at this point.

well, i s'pose i could eat some spinach, do some weight lifting, then turn the whole thing upside down but that would sure do a number on my carpet!!

Can you get a turkey baster down near that hole while using a flash light and while drawing up and causing suction see if anything moves? I have not idea what you are looking at as I don't have a non removable box on my tank. Just an idea to rule it out.

it would have to be a flexible turkey baster and i've never seen one of those but it sure does put some pretty disturbing images in my brain! LOL

i did try the same sort of thing with some airline tubing but still no luck. i'll be testing my water every day. if i get an ammonia spike, i will assume the fish died (which i HATE) but i don't know any other solution. unfortunately, this is not a removable chamber.
