Tyler Merrick Blog Archive Modifing the Coralife Super Skimmer CSS

I modified the Coralife 220 skimmer. Works fine now. Also, I put probably 2 times the fishing line you see there on mine.

Quick update on the tank.

Tested not too long ago..
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 20ppm
pH 8
SG 1.024

Looking good? Time to add the CUC yet or should I wait?

I have a bucket of saltwater mixed and ready to go in case I should do a water change?

Thanks guys again.

Thanks. Any order I should dump them in and what should I be feeding them until I get the fish?

I have the food for the fish already.

Will do a partial water change soon as the water is a little cold at the moment, forgot to plug the heater in - lol!

Feed them? You don't have any algae growing in your tank? WOW, they will munch on Nori Sheets, the hermits will munch on sinkin shrimp pellets.

I have a slight diatom bloom but that was because I set my timer wrong for the lights and accidentally left them on full for 10 hours while I was at work.

Least I think it is a diatom bloom, brown patch on the sand bed.

I have algae wafers from my freshwater tank, so will give them a bit of that.

So my trip to get the CUC didnt exactly go as planned.

I did managed to get some but my LFS has just got an order in and everything saltwater apart from 6 tanks was in quarantine.

Managed to get:
10 x Scarlet Reef Hermits
10 x Orange Spot Butterscotch Nassarius Snail

I have on order:
10 x Astrea Snails
10 x Cerith Snails
5 x Turbo snails
5 x Peppermint shrimp.

Lost one Hermit crab on the way home as it came out of its shell, lost a leg and then passed on.

How long should I be waiting now until I add the fish, am in no hurry.

The rest of the CUC as mentioned will be out of quarantine in 2 weeks. There is another store but I would prefer to use the more "reputable" one that I have the order with.

I cannot believe the speed the Orange Spots come out the sand at even the slightest smell of food. I put a tiny piece of algae wafer in and before it was even on the bottom the tank, all 10 sprang out the sand and swarmed it when it finally touched bottom.

They enjoy climbing the side of the aquarium as well and then dropping off and going straight back into the sand.

You can slowly start to add fish now if you'd like. Slowly, watch the water parameters.
