10 gal FOWLR first salt tank help?

just setting up my 10 gal FOWLR tank with HOB filter and a sump that ill have carbon in soon. i have 10lbs of rock from a prev tank that i got from the LPS it wasnt true live rock but like a base rock.(it was free) then i have like 3-4 lbs of live rock streight from thier aquarium at the store. then i got a 20lb bag of caribSea live sand and its seems pretty deep. ill be making a skimmer soon and i bought the wooden airstones already.

im having trouble matching my siphon back up with the powerhead ughhhh. idk what the prob is? i had my GSP get sucked down and he died so i i cut it and then put it back to gether to get him out (sniff) ne ways i cant get it. ill keep u all updated!

Dude. Unless i am missing something, you do not have an appropriate overflow to be running a sump system, based on your question. You should not have to "match" the syphon with the power head.... it should be self regulating.

i showed a pic of my overflow pvc i made! but when the valve is all the way open its not flowing for some reason? it was b4 my puffer got sucked up the siphon lol. but i had to cut it open and glue it back together to get the puffer out of the pvc pipe. i seen this design on monsterfishkeeper.com and i seen variations of it on youtube. im using a powerhead to pump the water back in and then my siphon i made.
