Chicklette, as long as the strips aren't expired or the package hasn't gotten damp, they are fine for general readings. I use them. From the symptoms, it does sound like Jewel may have external parasites. You can safely treat her with 3 tsps of aquarium salt per gallon and increasing the heat to 86 F. Do a partial water change every day to suck out any parasites that fall off of her because of the salt.

You need filter in you do partial water changes and cycle you tank. Since you do full water change for him every 8 days you really don't need a filter. I hope you betta doing good and recovered from breathing problems?

She doesn't seem to be having breathing problems, I see the gill best when she's looking directly at me. When I gave her her dinner, she kept banging her head into the filter instead of eating, so I distracted her by wiggling her toothbrush and moving her attention towards her food-- she followed the toothbrush (as usual) and I guided her to where her pellets were. I haven't noticed her bumping into anything since.

Hi chicklette. Do you mean one gill cover is extended out more than the other one? So if you look at her from the top you can see her gill cover sticking out? Is she breathing and acting okay or does she seem like she might be in some distress?

I don't know what's up but I can't get the link to work. Photobucket can't find you. If you send me a private message, you can send the link as is. It's only visitor messages that you can't send links (don't know why).

Hi chicklette. I tried the link (edited) but it didn't work. I also tried a search on Photobucket but that didn't work either. You can PM me the link and see if that works. I will say that ever since Photobucket switched to their new format, I've had loads of trouble with videos. :(

AQ salt is just plain table salt that is not iodized, you use it for things like fin rot and external problems a fish might have and the usual dose is 1 tbsp per gal but you cna go as high as 3 tbsp per gal but you have to start at one and raise it up slowly, aq salt treatments should not exceed 10 days if salt does not work within 10 day you will have to move on to meds
