    No worries.

Also, some of the other unimaculata complex species can do fine in harder water. They may not be as 'pretty' as macrostoma, but species such as ideii, unimaculata, patoti and ocellata are quite adaptable and have the same basic look and personality.

I like the coccina complex of species. But unless you have a way of getting your water pH down below 5-6 it is not worth trying to keep them.

Betta albimarginata are great if these are going to be your first wild betta species. Easy to care for, very friendly, not too fussy on water conditions and damn near like rabbits when they get in the mood.

I always recommend either those or channoides for people wanting to get into wild bettas.

Betta macrostoma generally like softer water too. They can be notoriously tricky to get fry from, and are adept jumpers. They are very big fish and really require a tank in the 25-30 gallon range for a pair as sometimes there is aggression between the male and female.

Also you must have a tight fitting and strong lid for these. This complex is very bad with jumping and you can have no gaps for them to get out of.

I think I saw one wiggling....I don't know, though. I haven't taken dad out yet. Do you think I should? He hasn't eaten anyone yet...I was definitely not foreseeing this.

I'm so upset that I think I'm going to be sick. My grandma lifted the lid and coaxed dad out from under the nest when I was gone at some point. Dad must've felt that the nest was threatened, because there's no nest anymore and the bottom is littered with baby bettas. I know I'll just have to try again...but still....

I'm so nervous about this spawn...I really want it to work!!! I have worm cultures, plants in the tank, and bbs eggs ready to be hatched...

Even with all of these things, I'm terrified that it will fail like my last two spawn attempts. Ugh. Third time's the charm? Maybe?

Also, I bred a grizzle male with a white female. The male has AWESOME finnage and the female has a nice and tight anal with a great caudal spread. Probably my best girl with one of my fave boys.

Oh. I don't know. I can't count since dad dragged a plant under the nest. I can't move the plant either, since the bubble nest is all over the plant now too.
