Temperature swings shouldn't cause parasite infections. There has to be a source of the parasites. Generally speaking, they tend to happen to people who feed live food.. do you feed any live or previously live food? It can be an opportunistic infection to stress but there had to be an initial introduction to the tank somehow.

Your CT could be suffering the same illness but showing different signs. Hard to say. Usually lethargic and won't eat I treat with Kanaplex which is an internal antibiotic but since you know the other guy has parasites maybe it's it too.

Good luck.. let me know how it goes..

Increasing temps like you would for ich might speed along their lifecycle and process as well. Something 80-85, but do so slowly and if he seems stressed by it stop.

Honestly, I would just stick with the parasite clear then. If you can't get anything else you got to use what you have, right? I think the face and everything else you're describing is a stress response to a pretty heavy internal parasite infection. Sometimes they can get secondary bacterial infections but since the parasite clear saw such a rapid turn around it would seem that may be all that's wrong. Hopefully, 2-3 weeks on this will be all needs. Just make sure to treat this + epsoms a week past when all seems clear and the poop returns to normal.

It's hard to judge which of the 4 meds were successful. Metro and Prazi are the two gentlest ingredients but they're not effective on everything. Honestly, I was pretty impressed with the quickness the med you used produced results. So if you don't want to use it's going to be an exercise in experimenting and patience

If you feel the med is too strong you could choose a med with just some of the medications. General Cure has just two of the four. There are some with just three of the four. I've seen people use that med okay for weeks at a time, but I do understand about being concerned since it is a heavy hitter.

You need to keep at full dose. If you cut the dose it might also breed a resistant strain because the strongest strands may not be effected by it and continue to grow until the drug is totally ineffective on the infection.

If you know your cycle is toast and he doesn't have any tank mates in the 5 gallon then you can go ahead and treat in the 5 gallon, if you want to. Or you can just ignore it for a month and things should die off naturally with no host in that time.

How is he today? Any better?

Mine actually greeted me this morning. He still doesn't look happy, but at least he's no longer doing barrel rolls.

I cannot tell you how freaked out I was yesterday morning, when I saw him doing barrel rolls all over the tank!!!!

    How's your little guy doing?

Mine was doing barrel rolls this morning. I freaked out. I was convinced that this was the end, and yet, he's still here. I just did a water change with more Epsom salt, and he's currently acclimating in his cup -- and managing to stay pretty much upright. (His back end drifts up occasionally, but at least he's not barrel rolling anymore.)

For such little fish, they sure do cause big problems, don't they? LOL

He hung on for a week, but I think he's dying now..... Did another water change last night, but it didn't help. He's in his cup with enough water to cover him, but he's lying on his side now so he can't really reach the surface.... I don't know what else to do for him.
